ZZ Top star Billy Gibbons tells MusicRadar.com that blues legend B.B. King gave him lasting life advice about effort and enjoyment. “BB King left me with probably the strongest statements you could ask for… ‘Why you working so hard?’ I would like to believe that. As the old saying goes, we’re fortunate in that we get to do what we like getting to do, so why mess with it?”
Motley Crue star Tommy Lee was doing a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine when he said seeing fans bring their kids to shows makes him realize the band’s legacy spans generations. “There’s nothing cooler on the planet than seeing somebody out there and they got their son or their daughter on their shoulders, singing along to our songs.”
John Mellencamp tells People magazine that he doesn’t encourage his children to pursue conventional jobs. “I’m the only father in the world that does not encourage their kids to work. It’s like, ‘What do you want to go to work for?’ Do whatever you want to do.”
Bruce Springsteen tells People magazine that he and his wife kept their kids’ upbringing grounded by shielding them from the trappings of fame. “When they were little, if they heard me on the radio they would go, ‘Bruce Springsteen!’ It was their way of separating their dad from this abstract character who also seemed to be part of their lives… They came to concerts a few times before going back to their rooms to play video games, and didn’t know much about it beyond what they may have read.”
Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea tells Rolling Stone magazine that he and his bandmate Anthony Kiedis did whatever they had to in order to survive when they were younger. “Anthony and I, when we were kids, we were up to so much wild stuff… we didn’t have any money… it was like, how are we going to get lunch today? What are we going to do?”
