A new survey by Talker Research reveals that 65% of people believe engagement rings have shifted from a symbol of love to a financial burden. Other findings:
– 61% of people say social media has turned proposals into performances
– only 24% of married or engaged couples follow the “three months’ salary” rule when it comes to buying rings
– 74% of people would rather start married life debt-free than have an expensive engagement ring
