Women Freeze Eggs; Men Now Freezing Hair: The Daily Beast says men are freezing their hair follicles in case they go bald. ‘Hair banking’ stores healthy hair follicles for possible cloning and transplantation after a person’s hair begins to thin. The cloning technique remains under development and has not been FDA-approved. People banking hair typically have about 100 follicles extracted compared with 1,000 to 4,000 grafts for a typical transplant. The extraction takes around 30 minutes. Hair restoration surgeons say cloned hairs have not consistently taken, and the hoped-for increase from 100 follicles to 10,000 hairs has not been achieved. The procedure costs around $2,000.
