Rick Springfield tells American Songwriter magazine that he got the idea to write “Jessie’s Girl” during a stained-glass class. “I only [took the class] for a couple of months, and she was this hot girl in the class and had a boyfriend. I took my sexual angst home and wrote a song. I actually had this original lyric sheet, and I changed it to Randy’s Girl. I’d actually started writing, ‘Randy is a friend,’ and halfway through that line I thought, you know what… No. So this name Jessie popped up in my head. I loved it. I went full tilt of the touring and writing and recording thing.”
Bryan Adams tells The Express Tribune that Bob Seger’s “Night Moves” influenced the lyrics for ”Summer of ’69”. “That’s such a brilliant song; it always annoyed me that I didn’t write it; it provided a framework for ‘Summer of ’69’, which was initially titled ‘Those Were The Best Days Of My Life’ before being revised; it’s a nostalgic song, romantic, teenage blues, that awkwardness of trying to figure out sexuality – it’s all there; I still think it’s a great lyric; probably the best I’ve ever written; those first four lines are probably the most memorable in my entire catalogue; I always got a laugh out of it.”

Red Hot Chili Peppers star Flea tells Forbes magazine that his stepfather used to look down on him for playing rock music “I had a stepdad who was a jazz musician, and I always felt that when I was playing rock music, he looked down on it. It was kind of this old-school jazz thing. He grew up learning all bop in the ’40s, and he was a serious bop guy. He really frowned upon rock music. It was like, “What are you doing with your haircuts and bell bottoms?””
Blondie star Debbie Harry was doing a recent interview for The Guardian newspaper when she said she was very reckless in her younger days. “I can’t say it was a great idea to be as curious and reckless as I was. Like daredevil athletes or people that jump out of planes, we’re all testing our boundaries, and mine were very large [laughs]. I barely took notice of any lucky escapes. I really went after discovery.”
