AOL says Mary Austin is allegedly having a difficult time managing the inheritance Freddie Mercury left her. Austin, Mercury’s former fiancée and longtime friend, received half of his estate, estimated at $40 million, at the time of his death. She initially refused to live in Mercury’s Kensington home, Garden Lodge, but later moved in and has lived there since his death. Austin has also kept the location of Mercury’s ashes a secret. She recently put Garden Lodge up for sale and said the inherited funds will go to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and her two sons after her death.
Rock Celebrities says Axl Rose has paid tribute to his cat Whiskey after the pet died at age 16. The Guns N’ Roses singer thanked supporters for their kindness, thoughtfulness and support. Rose said Whiskey had been a big part of his life since the day he was born, calling him a gentle, caring and a calming soul. He added that Whiskey’s father, Dijon, loves and misses him very much.
Page Six says 77 year-old Rick Springfield performed shirtless at a Las Vegas concert. The Australian rocker wore black leather pants while playing “Jessie’s Girl” at the Palms Casino Resort. Springfield also went shirtless during a concert at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on August 21st.
John Mellencamp tells Esquire magazine that he never liked the name Cougar. “When I first got the name John Cougar, I said, “No, no, no, we’re not doing this.” The owner of the record company said, “Well, okay, you can go back to Indiana then. We’re done.” I’m 21 years old, and I was like, “Okay, I’m Johnny Cougar then.”
Rod Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster, tells The Blast that he is recovering well from heart surgery. “I did have to explain to the doctor what Rod’s performances are like. He doesn’t just sit down on a stool or behind a piano, he runs around for nearly two hours with four different costume changes because he’s sweating through everything. He’s going to come back stronger than ever. I found it hard enough as it was to slow him down, so now he feels like he’s got a new lease of life.”
