Female First says Cyndi Lauper felt embarrassed working at a vintage shop after her band Blue Angel stopped performing. Lauper says she hid when recording artists she knew came into Screaming Mimi’s, the New York store where she worked. “They hired me! It probably wasn’t the best because when other recording artists I knew came in, I would duck under the counter and hide or pick up my purse and walk around pretending I was shopping. Then, when they left, I’d be a sales girl again.”
The Eagles’ Don Henley tells CBS that he never listens to the studio recording of “Desperado” because he thinks it could have been better. “I think I got to do about four takes, maybe five and I still have a little trouble with the intonation on the lead vocal to this day. I don’t listen to it. Why would I, when I have to play it every night? I don’t listen to much of any music anymore. Once in a while, I’ll turn on the radio, or I’ll put on a classical record. Maybe, I listen to audiobooks. But anything can get old after a while. I hear the flaws and what we should have or could have done in a particular instance.”
Simon Le Bon tells The Guardian that Duran Duran’s annual Halloween concerts have gotten increasingly silly over the years. “At the first one, I was a werewolf, but since then it’s developed. The next one, I was like the ghost of a north Atlantic convoy sea captain. There was a sort of nautical theme which suits me down to the ground. Another time I was a kind of cross between Mad Max and a mummy, but I also had this one scene where I was determined to wear antlers, like a druid god. And last time I was sort of aiming for something but it fell a bit short: I was a jellyfish, but it ended up looking like … I was going to say something off RuPaul’s Drag Race, but I’d be flattering myself. This time, I want to do something like Shiva the Destroyer.”
Mötley Crüe’s Tommy Lee tells GQ magazine that he has a house full of animals. “We’ve got a full-on farm over here! Fish, turtles, dogs, birds, my kids. We hang out and work in my studio a lot. Keeps me busy and out of trouble.”
Rock Celebrities says Jon Bon Jovi considered quitting during a four-year recovery from vocal cord surgery. He says, “I didn’t lose faith, but had [my doctor] told me it was going to be four years, I might’ve contemplated saying, ‘It’s been great’ [and leaving his office].” Bon Jovi turned down multiple tour offers because he did not want fans to sing parts he could not perform. By the end of his 2024 Wembley Stadium shows, he could perform songs from all 18 of his albums.
